Job Summary
This position is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the manufacturing, distribution, testing, and coordination of quality blood products and services to hospital partners. This role is responsible for ensuring hospital partners have access to quality products and services in a 24/7 capacity. This leadership position is responsible for guaranteeing products and services are following all regulatory requirements designed to create and maintain a safe blood supply through the management and oversight of three separate and distinct business units.
Essential Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies to optimize department operations in a cost-effective and efficient manner. This includes component manufacturing, inventory management, product distribution, and blood testing services (IRL and donor testing).
Directs all daily activities related to product assessment, order fulfillment, delivery, testing, and hospital relations, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met and/or exceeded (FDA, AABB, CLIA, OSHA, state health department, etc.).
Ability to work and manage departments that function 24/7, which require flexibility to manage and/or work different hours of the day and/or weekends.
Responsible for hospital relationship management by fostering and creating long term partnerships, facilitating urgent problem resolution, and proactively addressing service and/or access needs.
Creates and monitors goals and performance metrics for the three business units of component manufacturing, product management/distribution, and IRL testing to ensure efficient and process driven outcomes in a regulated area.
Collaborates with CCBC Medical Director (MD) to assure regulatory compliance while also monitoring and managing product quality and donor eligibility issues following MD and regulatory direction.
Leads, mentors, and evaluates team members promoting professional development and creating a culture of service excellence.
Responsible for creation and oversight of departmental financial budgets while ensuring adherence with set budgetary goals.
Actively engaged with Senior Management Team (SMT) and participates in organizational goal setting and strategic planning.
Responsible for continuous quality improvement through the creation and oversight of standard operating procedures (SOP), training and required competency assessment of personnel. May perform audits and reviews to ensure compliance.
Demonstrates alignment with and adherence to the company’s core values in all interactions, decisions, and work activities; serves as a role model for fostering a positive, respectful, and ethical workplace culture

Qualifications and Skills
Education/Licenses/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, medical technology or related field required.
At least five (5) years of progressive management experience with at least three (3) years in a senior leadership position, ideally in blood banking, transfusion services or healthcare operations.
Certification as a CLS or SBB/BB or equivalent, preferred.
Ability to work in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
Skills
Strong communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to present to a variety of different audiences.
Ability to execute effectively, on time and maintaining positive composure at all times.
Ability to trouble shoot/problem solve issues with strong decision-making skills.
Ability to create, oversee and direct quality and process improvement activities.
Familiarity with health and safety compliance regulations
Budget development and management skills

Knowledge of basic computer programs (MS Word, Excel) and experience with Blood Bank instrumentation software
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods (e.g., desk work, meetings).
Occasional standing and walking
Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, using a mouse, and operating standard office equipment
Close vision for reading reports, screens, documents, spreadsheets, and emails.
Working Conditions
Infrequent exposure to extreme cold temperatures, and could be required to enter walk-in freezer at 32°F or lower
Low to moderate noise level
Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, mask or goggles when handling samples and products

Today, the Central California Blood Center (CCBC) remains the leading source of blood products for the Valley’s providers. Serving a population base of over 1.9 million people, the CCBC must collect between 5,000 and 6,000 pints of blood each month, to meet the Central Valley’s needs.
