The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking an experienced physician to provide medical oversight for our Transfusion Service. The Transfusion Service supports an active medical / surgical hospital of approximately 850 beds with an additional 100 bed cancer hospital currently in design. Notable programs at MUSC include stem cell and solid organ transplantation, two Level 1 Trauma Centers, an active cardiac surgery program, and a large sickle cell treatment program.
The Transfusion Service at MUSC distributes over 60,000 blood products annually and has a technical staff of over 25. Currently, the Transfusion Service Director also provides medical oversight for our stem cell processing laboratory. However, therapeutic apheresis services are not provided by the Transfusion Service.
The Transfusion Service is part of the Clinical Laboratory division of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Department currently has 22 Pathology residents.
Physician (MD or DO)
Board certified AP/CP or CP plus certification in Transfusion Medicine
Eligible for licensure in South Carolina
Prefer eligibility to provide oversight for the stem cell processing laboratory

The MUSC transfusion service supports an 850 bed acute care hospital with 2 level 1 trauma centers, an NCI-designated cancer center, active slid tumor tranplant programs, adult and pediatric stem cell transplant programs, and a anctive sickle cell treatment program.
