We are hiring Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Laboratory Technologist to work at FCC Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Butner, NC.
Duration:Indefinite
Start Date:As soon as clearance is received from the facility
Schedule Options:
6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
11:30 AM – 8:00 PM
The contractor shall provide professional clinical laboratory testing services to inmates at FCC Butner. Services will be delivered within the facility’s medical department, supporting the health and diagnostic needs of the inmate population.
The contractor will function as a generalist, performing testing across all disciplines of the clinical laboratory, including:
Hematology
Transfusion Services
Coagulation
Urinalysis
Infectious Disease
Serology
Chemistry
This role requires advanced, thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory sciences, including the ability to analyze human blood, tissues, and body fluids. The contractor must demonstrate:
Specialized knowledge of clinical correlation and laboratory methodologies
Proficiency in equipment/instrument maintenance and quality assurance
Experience with external proficiency testing programs to maintain lab accreditation
Competence in quality control procedures for equipment, reagents, and products
Responsibilities Include:
Ordering studies in the Laboratory Information System
Drawing and preparing blood samples
Maintaining sharps accountability and lab logs
Completing lab request forms and draw lists
Managing supply inventory and equipment maintenance
Preparing biological specimens for shipment
Processing incoming and outgoing referral specimens
Ensuring compliance with CLIA guidelines
Communicating with the Laboratory Supervisor regarding services rendered and any issues
Note: While direct entries in inmate medical records are not typically required, some contractor-generated information may be included.
Qualifications:
Certification from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Degree must be in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field (Biology or Chemistry degrees are not accepted)
Required Experience:
Recent experience as an MLT or MLS within the last 3 years (new/recent grads are eligible)
Strong knowledge of human specimen handling
Ability to perform testing in all major lab disciplines
Advanced understanding of clinical laboratory science and analysis
Completion of a clinical laboratory training program
Evidence of successful completion of a clinical laboratory certification exam
Evidence of experience within the past three (3) years in performing clinical laboratory testing on human specimens
Ability to work with a diverse inmate population (experience in correctional settings preferred but not required)
