The Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospitalin Columbus are seeking a new Assistant Director/ Director of Apheresis.
This position will be shared between the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Division of Hematology/Oncology/Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation. The majority of the position will involve management of the clinical apheresis services, with a smaller portion in transfusion medicine. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary academic collaboration between clinical sub-specialties at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Centers for Cancer and Blood Disorders in the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and the Ohio State James Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology/Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation oversees a nationally recognized and FACT accredited apheresis program. Offered services include Red Cell Exchange, Plasmapheresis, Stem Cell Harvest, and Photopheresis. In addition, novel therapeutic clinical trials are offered through the Cellular Therapy Program.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine currently consists of twenty-six clinical faculty, including three transfusion medicine physicians. The transfusion service supports a level 3 NICU and a level 1 trauma center with over 10,000 blood products transfused annually. This position will provide consultative services to providers in anesthesia, transplantation, surgery, critical care as well as offer medical, technical and regulatory laboratory support.
Qualified candidates will be board certified in Transfusion Medicine, with experience in pediatric Apheresis preferred. Also required is a proven record of leadership and managerial responsibilities, and experience in mentorship of junior faculty is desirable.
