The Vice President of Medical Services & Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the medical and technical leadership and oversight of all Carter BloodCare operations.
This individual also serves with the other vice presidents in sharing administrative duties under the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves in a leadership role in the CEO’s absence. This person serves as the administrative head of the Medical Services department, including directly overseeing the 5 other Medical Directors. The Department of Clinical Apheresis (therapeutic and cell therapy collections), the immunohematology reference lab (IRL), three transfusion services at off-site hospitals, the Cellular Therapy processing lab, Donor Notification, and Procedure Development all report up to the VP of Medical Services and Chief Medical Officer. This individual will serve as the CLIA director for the main laboratories on Carter BloodCare’s campuses. The VP of Medical Services and Chief Medical Officer will help develop new business opportunities for the abovementioned departments.
The VP of Medical Services/CMO is expected to promote relations with local customers and participate in resident and fellow teaching with the local medical schools. Academic activity and participation in regional and national industry groups is encouraged. Regular, full time attendance is required during office hours.
EDUCATION
Required:
M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree
Active Texas medical license
Board eligible or board certified in primary field of training
Preferred:
Completed pathology or internal medicine/hematology residency training
Board eligible or board certified in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine by the American Board of Pathology
MBA or other business degree or certificate work
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
10 years or more experience in blood banking/transfusion medicine, including at least five years in a blood donor center setting
5 years or more supervisory/administrative experience
1 year or more therapeutic apheresis experience
1 year or more cellular therapy experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Current knowledge of blood bank regulatory standards and requirements
State of the art knowledge in blood banking and transfusion medicine, including all aspects of apheresis practice and cellular therapy advancements
General medical knowledge
Team-building and interpersonal relationship skills
Public speaking skills
Personal computer basic skills
