General Summary
Part-Time Rotating Shifts
Blood Bank- The Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) role, under general supervision, performs analyses on a variety of sample types. Maintains proper records and utilizes independent judgement to generate acceptable test results. Responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of laboratory functions. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biology or related sciences or an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program with experience required.
- Experience: 0-1 years (bachelor's degree) preferred; minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience (Associates in MLT or related science or Military Training) required.
- Licensure/Certifications: ASCP or equivalent preferred.
Working Conditions
Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes. Potential for regular exposure to communicable disease and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices. The worker is subject to variations in room temperature. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.
Physical Requirements
Standing, sitting, bending and walking is required 3-5 hours/shift. Involves lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (up to 40 lbs.) 0-3 hours/shift. Includes reaching for, fingering, grasping and handling equipment/supplies 3-5 hours/shift. Requires hearing/listening for telephone/communication. Visual acuity is necessary to read labels, documents, microscopic slides, and for various instruments.
Must have manual dexterity for using keyboard and instrumentation. Color vision required for some laboratory procedures.
