SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The medical laboratory scientist, under minimal supervision, is responsible for independently performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues that includes standardized microscopic, chemical, and/or bacteriological testing. All testing is performed in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulations and guidelines. Test results are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Associates degree for Medical Laboratory Technician or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science required
Eligible to take the ASCP Board of Review exam for Medical Laboratory Technician, American Society of Clinical Pathology, (MLT-ASCP) Certification. MLT (ASCPCM) or AMT Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire in order to retain position.
In lieu of a degree, an individual may provide evidence of alternate education or coursework in Medical Technology that would allow them to sit for the AMT or ASCP certification exam.
