Our hospital, Hershey Medical Center, is a 610 bed Academic Medical Center with a variety of complex services, including a comprehensive cancer center, cardiovascular and heart transplant center, state of the art Women's Health and Neonatal care, nationally ranked pediatric services and Level I Pediatric and Adult Trauma programs.
Within the Department of Pathology, our laboratory team falls into two sections, Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. Our Clinical Pathology Team is comprised of the Automated Testing Laboratory, Phlebotomy, Special Hematology, Blood Bank, Hematopoietic Cell Therapy, Microbiology and Virology, while our Anatomic Pathology Team includes Cytology, Decedent Care, Histology, Histocompatibility and Molecular Diagnostics. Together, we perform over 8.7 million tests annually that are critical for an accurate diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for our patients.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
As a member of the Automated Testing Lab, you'll be part of talented team who will have an opportunity to perform testing in Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Blood Gases, and Electrophoresis. Performing over 5,000,000 tests per year including specialty testing, there is ample opportunity to expand your skillset and experience various disciplines in the lab setting.
We are a patient focused lab seeking innovative and forward-thinking team members who are eager to utilize their talents to perform and improve patient testing.
Responsibilities:
·Perform complex laboratory tests on blood, urine, and body fluids primarily in Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Blood Gases
·Perform QC, calibrations, and maintenance on various instrumentation
Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program (NAACLS/ABHES) or Associate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semesters of biology, and twelve (12) semester hours of courses in chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination and proof of eligibility to sit for an applicable certification exam (ASCP, AMT, ACHI or equivalent).
Medical Lab Technician Certification through ASCP, AMT, ACHI or an equivalent certification agency must be obtained within 18 months of employment for all Medical Lab Technicians at the Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Department of Pathology.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicant is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.
