Position Summary: The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing patient analytic laboratory testing, quality control, data analysis, results reporting, instrument maintenance, and technical problem resolution. This is a technical position. Typical work situations require performing multiple tests with exacting accuracy and rapid turnaround time. Medical Technologists perform manual and automated procedures, operate instruments that are computer interfaced and use networked computer information systems. This position requires a service-committed individual, who is detail oriented and can perform complex data analysis, exercise sound, independent judgment and demonstrate critical thinking skills. The Medical Technologist may assume some administrative responsibilities and act as a resource for other laboratory personnel as well as for external customers such as physicians, patient care staff and outside organizations and laboratories.
Minimum Requirements: Experience preferred
Education/Licenses/Certifications: - Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or laboratory sciencesCurrent Certification of Medical Technologist, MLS (ASCP)CM, or MT (ASCP) or Medical Technologist, MLS (ASCPi)CM, or MT (ASCP) registry eligible, or MT(AMT) (if certified after Jan 2007), or an appropriate categorical registry as stipulated below-- For Microbiology: As above, or M(ASCP) or M(ASCP) registry eligible For Transfusion Services: As above, or by management direction, Technologist in Blood Banking BB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) registry eligible For Cytogenetics: As above or by management direction, Technologist in Cytogenetics CG(ASCP) or CG(ASCP) registry eligible For Molecular Biology: As above, or by management direction, Technologist in Molecular Biology, MB(ASCP) or MB(ASCP) registry eligible - Current Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification or Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification eligible (if duties will include phlebotomy)
