Phlebotomist
Role Summary:
The Phlebotomist is responsible for accessioning specimens or patient tissue materials for testing including packaging specimens or tissue materials to be sent out to referring laboratory. The Phlebotomist works closely with all laboratory staff, medical staff, and external customers. The Phlebotomist performs customer service functions including telephone etiquette and basic troubleshooting and problem resolution.

- Prepares specimens and patient materials for shipping.
- Provides general clerical support.
- Processing and testing in one or more departments during a shift
- Mastery and practice of laboratory policy and procedure
- Intimate knowledge of testing methods theory and instruments and tools used for diagnostic utility
- Quality Assurance, Kit Validation, Instrument Maintenance, Proficiency Testing, Environmental Monitoring, Reagent Preparation, Diagnostic Reporting and Alarm
- Incident reporting and documentation
- Professional and medical ethics, confidentiality police, PHI and patient privacy guardian
- Specimen collection specialist
- Waived to Moderate complexity specialty management
- Assisting Technologists and Administrative Laboratory Director as needed and where appropriate
Department/Unit Summary:
The Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Diagnostic Lab consists of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Reference Lab, Blood Bank, and Coagulation. The Lab processes over 6,000 tests weekly and utilize cutting-edge EMR and LIS system. This is a 24- hour operation with 8 hours shifts with experienced Phlebotomy support. Every other weekend required and holiday rotation.
