Schedule Details : Two week rotation
W1: Monday 8-5, Tuesday OFF, Wednesday OFF, Thursday 8-5, Friday OFF
W2: Monday OFF, Tuesday8-430, Wednesday 8-5, Thursday OFF, Friday 8-430
About Us:
ProHealth Care offers a system-wide laboratory operation with core hospital labs at Waukesha Memorial and Oconomowoc Memorial as well as two clinic-based laboratory sites in Waukesha County. The laboratory performs over 8 million tests annually.
Our Lab services operate state of the art facilities and include clinical testing in the areas of Histology, Cytology, Hematology, Coagulation, Clinical Chemistry, Urinalysis, Immunoassay, Microbiology, Transfusion service, EIA, and Molecular Biology. ProHealth Care offers a vibrant outreach program, providing laboratory testing to numerous specialty hospitals, physician offices, nursing home, and assisted living facilities. Our Pathologists and PhDs work closely with lab employees to monitor quality, as well as identify, access, and implement new technology. The Laboratory has certification and accreditation through the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA).

Job Summary
Performs phlebotomy on clinic patients. Instructs patients for non-blood specimen collections.
Responsibilities
Draw/obtain blood specimens from patients by mean of venipuncture or capillary collection according policies and procedures
Makes a positive patient identification
Explains the procedure and purpose of steps being performed
Pull orders from Electronic Medical Record (EMR), enters orders into EMR from outside providers, link orders to appointment, assign venipuncture and handling charges to the order in the EMR, close the encounter after specimen collection is complete.
Instructs patient on maintaining proper pressure on puncture site and applies pressure bandage
Reports any difficulty with specimen collection to the nursing staff, physician or leader as appropriate.
Accommodates any special patient requests or consideration
Responds to requests for blood or other specimen collection in departments within the clinic but outside of the lab.
Create a Batch, place Batch in transport and decant the specimen in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Promptly distributes specimens to lab processing
Prepares, Instructs patients and receives collection of all non-blood specimens
Labels all specimens accurately and in accordance with policy and procedure
Alerts Transportation of calls for a stat pick up of special tests that require special handling or immediate attention
Receive all blood specimens in the LIS.
Follows policy, contacts patients and schedule any necessary re-draws. Inform leadership of related patient concerns and necessary fee adjustments.
Educates patient on fasting and fluid intake requirements. Answers any lab collection procedure questions.
Assists and advocates for patients who present for specimen collection without a system order.
Appropriately notifies nursing and physician staff and assists with medical emergencies that occur in the lab.
Monitors supply levels. Completes restocking and proper utilization of supplies, maintaining inventory and ordering if required.
Monitor expiration dates on all tubes and other time sensitive supplies
Monitors refrigerator temperatures daily
Cleans and sanitizes all drawing, processing areas and equipment
Monitors all bio-hazard container and transports containers to bio-hazard room when necessary.
Performs medical and occupational drug screens if applicable to the site
Assists with the training and orientation of new personnel
Use resources available on the Lab iNet page for instructions of infrequent tests ordered
Additional Requirements
Completion of a formal phlebotomy program at a technical training school or equivalent experience (2 years in a clinical lab environment).
