Overview
Atlantic Health System is seeking a Full Time Clinical Lab Assistant II for Overlook Medical Center to work in Transfusion Services from 7pm - 3am Monday - Friday including every other weekend.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions/Responsibilities of Position:
- Receives and processes specimens with the laboratory. Assists with materials management and quality control processes. Uses basic instrumentation and performs preventative maintenance.
- Blood/Blood Product Inventory:
- Maintaining and monitoring inventory of reagents and critical materials, thawing fresh frozen plasma, and cryoprecipitate.
- Prepares, maintains Blood Bank records for review.
- Irradiation of blood products, logging in blood/blood products, prepare samples for processing, blood/blood products processing.
- Performing clerical duties, including but not limited to, answering phones and communicating needs to staff.
- Manage the receipt, storage and disposal of specimens including:
- Receiving and accessioning of clinical specimens.
- Enter orders in LIS with utmost accuracy.
- Contributes to monthly QA to be maintained for the department.
- Accurately match and label specimen container with requisition for surgical number.
- Solutions/Fluids/Inventory Management:
- Prepare solutions of 70%, 80%, and 95% and keep stocked.
- Discard specimens on a rotating basis.
- Specimen management
- Tasks such as ordering supplies and maintaining an up to date inventory.
- Storage and environmental disposal of waste.
- Technical Duties:
- Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
- Scan/and or data entry of specimen and patient information.
- Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform instrument maintenance.
- Troubleshoot any specimen related issues.
- Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
- Additional duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned duties accurately, efficiently and effectively in a timely manner.
- Actively seek out other assignments when daily tasks are completed.
- Respond to telephone calls for specimen collection info, etc.
- Distribute supplies.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Required:
- High School diploma required
Minimum Experience Required:
- Physician office or clinical experience preferred
- Medical terminology experience preferred
