The Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic is recruiting a full-time academic Transfusion Medicine physician as the Section Head of Transfusion Medicine. The successful candidate will join a group of five Transfusion Medicine physicians, and will provide leadership, direction and strategic planning for our growing Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine services provided at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and Regional Hospitals. Candidates must be certified in CP or combined AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology and be board certified in Transfusion Medicine. A minimum of 5-years’ experience is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members, clinicians, residents and fellows, and the leadership teams to advance patient care and hospital mission are required.
The Section includes Transfusion Services and a Blood Bank with automated and manual testing which performs a full range of immunohematology testing and reference laboratory testing for regional hospital blood banks. Additionally, the section has a Progenitor Cell Processing Laboratory supporting an active bone marrow transplant program, both adult and pediatric, and cellular therapy products for other research requests. Transfusion Medicine physicians provide antibody interpretations and consults for our clinical and laboratory colleagues, and the Section supports numerous complex surgeries, transplants, and other patient needs across the various institutes. The Transfusion Medicine Section is accredited by the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). We support an ACGME-accredited residency and Transfusion Medicine fellowship program. The Section of Transfusion Medicine is a dynamic, collaborative group and there is ample opportunity for clinical and translational research as well as teaching of students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.
A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
