DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center . DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and full service outreach infrastructure which includes patient service centers, remote ambulatory laboratories, marketing staff, courier system and billing department. The DMC University Laboratories service area covers the entire Southeast Michiganmarket, and is growing at a rapid pace with the following outstanding features: Test menu of over 1,000 tests, which includes high end specialty tests. Less than 1% of our tests are sent to outside reference laboratories. Provide reference laboratory services to many of the other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and several out of state facilities.
Need an experienced ASCP certified Cytotechnologist to assist with FNA and EBUS slide preparation and onsite adequacy. In addition will microscopically examine , Diagnose and S/O negative Gynecologic specimens. Need to know which specimens need to be reviewed and S/O by Pathologist. The candidate will also assist with microscopic examination of Non Gynecologic and FNA specimens for Pathologists review and S/O.. Able to maintain QA/QC and workload records, along with ordering and maintaining inventory levels of Cytology supplies. Assist with miscellaneous tasks related to Cytology, Cap surveys, CAP inspection preparation, Procedures as required by CAP and other regulatory agencies and safety needs.
Efficient in completing tasks accurately and in timely manner with a flexible attitude towards internal and external changes. Able to work effectively with rest of the team members including Cytotechs, Lab assistants, Pathologists and Fellows and outside customers.
Under general supervision and following established procedures, stains, mounts slides and microscopically studies cells from the human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions. Microscopically examines stained slides from a variety of biological materials in order to detect cancer or other cellular abnormalities. Searches for minute abnormalities in size, shape, color and arrangements of cells which may indicate disease. Prepares specimens for examination, utilizing appropriate laboratory techniques and protocols. Classifies cells according to established categories. Determines whether cells are abnormal and whether slide should be reviewed and examined by other laboratory personnel. Reviews and classifies all abnormal cases held for Pathologist's review; prepares and submits reports to physicians and other authorized personnel. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, professional affiliations. Adheres compliance with established administrative laboratory policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with requirement of laboratory safety, OSHA, assurance accreditation and regulatory agencies. Performs other related duties as required.
1. Bachelor"s degree in cytology or related science, or equivalent education and experience to obtain certification.
2. Registered or registry eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
