Position 1 is located in Core Laboratory and Phlebotomy Sections of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program, reporting to the Supervisory Medical Technologist. Position 2 is located in the Core Laboratory/Blood Bank Section of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program. Duties and Competencies listed are representative of duties you may be expected to perform dependent upon positions selected for. Performs a range of diagnostic duties such as taking and labeling specimens for the clinical laboratory as assigned by the Supervisory Medical Technologist . Follows proper procedures for drawing and redrawing blood utilizing numerous methods and techniques to obtain samples from even the most difficult of patients. Adheres to special instructions such as "transport on ice", "deliver immediately", and "protect from light" Provides initial aid when patient has a reaction to administered materials or procedures and may call codes when serious reaction or emergency conditions exist. Evaluates suitability of all collected specimens for testing Acts independently when contacting appropriate medical staff personnel and researching specimen related problems Properly processing, ordering, packaging, and shipping specimens submitted for testing at reference laboratories Ensures all reference laboratory specimens are collected properly, processed, and packaged and shipped correctly in accordance with reference laboratory specifications Complies with safety, infection control, and universal precaution guidelines for handling specimens Work Schedule: Rotating tours of duty ranging from 5am start time until 11pm end time, with possibility of changing between H.J.
