The Medical Technologist position is assigned to the Clinical Testing Unit with P&LMS at Dayton VAMC, Dayton, Ohio. The incumbent to this position serves as the liaison between our affiliated universities and colleges to coordinate student internship and VALOR student training to meet the education goals and objectives of school. The incumbent will also serve as an assistant to the Laboratory Information Manager as a backup when needed. Major duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent serves as a generalist in medical technology with responsibility for performing procedures in all areas of Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Blood Bank, Urinalysis and Specimen Processing; and limited Microbiology and Serology as needed during scheduled tour of duty. Oversees the Medical Technology (MT) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) internship student rotations with our affiliated education institutes to include but not limited to Wright State University (WSU), Sinclair University, and Hondros College at the Dayton VAMC Campus. Serves as liaison between Dayton VAMC and WSU MT Internship professors and staff. Serves as a preceptor to Valor Medical Technology students. Assists the LIM (Laboratory Information Manager) in carrying out day-to-day operations related to laboratory computer use such as file editing and instrument interfacing. Follows prescribed procedures, performs any tests in the unit to which he/she is temporarily or permanently assigned. Collects (by venipuncture) and prepares human samples for analysis. Responds to time factor to ensure that the physiologic state of specimens is maintained. Prepares reagents and primary reference material. Selects, performs, evaluates, and monitors the performance of non-routine and specialized test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols. The medical technologist plans and carries out the successive steps of testing procedures in multiple areas/Sections, and independently handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with established protocols, previous training, or accepted laboratory practices. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with weekend and holiday rotations. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
