The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic Florida is actively recruiting a Transfusion Medicine physician with interest in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. The successful candidate must have strong knowledge and skill sets in Transfusion Medicine especially apheresis, stem cell collection, cell therapy, regenerative medicine and regulatory compliance to join our growing practice and to make contributions to our patient care, and educational and scholarly activities. The successful candidate will spend 80% of his/her effort under Transfusion Medicine Service and 20% effort under Center for Regenerative Medicine.
The Transfusion Medicine service at Mayo Clinic in Florida supports a 300-bed tertiary care hospital, which includes general adult medicine and multiple complex specialty practices, including hematology/oncology, solid organ and stem cell transplantation, neurology, and cardiology. The Transfusion Medicine section is currently staffed by 2 full-time, board-certified Transfusion Medicine specialists who provide blood product transfusion support, supervise apheresis procedures, manage cellular therapy activities and offer clinical consultations. Approximately 24,000 blood products are transfused and over 7,050 apheresis procedures are performed annually. The Transfusion Medicine service supports stem cell processing, storage, and infusion for transplant as well as collection and processing of commercial and clinical trial immune effector cell products. The Center for Regenerative Medicine is a Mayo enterprise-wide transformation center that offers various experimental cellular therapy products such as mesenchymal stem cells, immunotherapy products such as CAR-T, extracellular vesicles and many more. The Center is leading enterprise efforts in developing new cell therapy products such as clinical grade iPSCs and engineered stem cells to treat a variety of diseases, and is also leading the growing efforts in advanced bio-manufacturing. The successful candidate will have an MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree, be board-certified in clinical pathology and transfusion medicine, and be eligible for Florida medical licensure and academic rank at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Candidates with strong experience in cellular therapy and regenerative medicine are desired. At least three years of experience in cell therapy is preferred, although well-qualified candidates early in their career with strong research experience will also be considered. The selected candidate will participate in teaching residents and fellows, engage in scholarly activities, work in a team-oriented manner, and undertake leadership responsibilities as needed.
