Medical Technologists - Blood Bank Full-time, day/night & part-time/night Become part of a team using the latest technology that is also FDA licensed to manufacture blood components. Perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests, identify source and nature of test problems, report results, and recommend course of action. Responsibilities - Serve as resource for immunohematology and blood product transfusion therapy.
- Apply scientific method in problem solving for complex immunohematology testing.
- Identify and correlate possible sources and nature of serological testing, interference related to drugs, prior transfusion, or passive transmission in immunohematology testing.
- Evaluate and develop new methods, techniques, and protocols.
- Ensure that quality control criteria are met, and adhere to established laboratory policies in handling hazardous substances.
- Perform Thromboelatometry tests to project live coagulopathy values in the Operating Room to guide physicians in the use of blood components for heart and liver transplant patients.
- Perform required instrument maintenance and minor troubleshooting, and log appropriately.
- Recognize the clinical significance of inappropriate blood orders, educate clinicians on the appropriate use of blood components and required indications, and refer unresolved inappropriate blood orders to Blood Bank Laboratory leadership.
- Record documentation to comply with agency and Hospital regulations.
- Train rotating residents, students, physicians and new lab staff members on laboratory testing procedures.
Credentials - Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology (or equivalent combination of training and experience in medical laboratory and technology).
- Meets all regulatory requirements for high complexity testing.
- ASCP or equivalent certification (unless grandfathered into the position prior to May 20, 2016).
