JOB SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Blood Bank is a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) with additional functions related to the supervision of a particular technical department(s) within the hospital clinical laboratory. The incumbent is responsible for supervising and coordinating all aspects of the administration of the Blood Bank and Serology including monitoring of supplies, maintenance of quality control, proficiency testing, ensuring the Blood Bank meets accreditation requirements for licensure, and attends inspections as needed. The incumbent is also responsible for the analyzers and other equipment, troubleshooting quality control anomalies, training, maintaining all records, and setting technical standards in assigned areas of supervision. The incumbent will also work in Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology as needed.
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is a professional state-licensed position within the hospital clinical laboratory. A CLS is expected to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in all areas involving patients and their related hospital business.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: 1. Directly responsible to the Laboratory Services Manager 2. This position provides supervisory support to Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Laboratory Assistants or Phlebotomists. 3. Works closely with hospital district leadership and departments as well as internal and external customers.
Required · Bachelor's degree. · Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license. · ASCP/AMT Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification · Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist · Must demonstrate a strong attention to details and work with minimal supervision. · Good organizational skills. · Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with other team members and departments. · Conduct, appearance and work performance shall be of professional quality. Preferred · ASCP – SBB – Specialist in Blood Banking certification
