Work Hours/Shift: Full Time, 8am to 5:30pm, M-F
You Will Be Responsible For:
Responsible for equipment in the processing, collection and mobile areas - validation/verification, operation, maintenance and record review according to the manufacturer's instructions, department SOPs and regulatory standards.
Manages, assigns and/or performs donation processing, collecting and support activities related to blood center operations. Activities may include general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; inventory control and supply stocking; donor collection; biological specimen processing; cleaning and disinfection of selected or assigned laboratory equipment and spaces; quality control and calibration performance; answering the telephone, clerical and/or receptionist duties. Ensures activities are organized and scheduled in a manner that maximizes effective use of personnel, equipment and facilities and performed in accordance with department SOPs and regulatory standards.
Manages and oversees the processing area; stock, label and prepare inventory for distribution; coordinates and schedules volunteers for daily activities, ensures inventory levels are met and distributed to the correct departments.
Responsible for the Donor Services' SOP's - writing, biennial review, identifying the need for new or revised SOPs based on new or revised standards and regulations; develops and implements SOPs.
Responsible for the quality assurance and compliance of the Donor Services to standards, regulations, and department SOPs. Implements a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishes parameters or acceptable levels of performance; ensures that quality control is reviewed as required by regulatory standards. Collects quality indicator data and submits data in timely manner to the QA Coordinator.
Directs and manages department staffing within allocated budgeted hours, including interviewing and hiring under the guidance of the Sr. Mgr. of Blood and Donor Services, selection of new staff members, ensuring appropriate orientation of new employees, ongoing training of staff, documented competency assessment of staff, and performing performance evaluations
Coordinates with Sr. Mgr. of Blood and Donor Services and Medical Director to oversee donor medical and technical issues related to collections or processing, providing guidance for the collection staff.
Prepares and manages, under direction of Sr. Mgr. of Blood and Donor Services and Laboratory Executive Director, an operating budget that ensures appropriate staffing, professional development, space, supplies, and equipment, necessary for improving and maintaining the quality of services. Ensures that the Donor Services operates within budgetary goals.
Ensures staff performance in proficiency testing, consistently adhering to federal and state regulations as well as AdventHealth policies. Consistently ensures processing area, collection stations and mobile units are maintained in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner, and that documentation is complete per regulatory requirements, properly stored and safeguarded.
Actively leads and participates in laboratory Performance Improvement activities, including evaluation of new equipment and/or procedures or methods. Actively promotes team building and employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and a culture of safety for employees and patients. Utilizes knowledge of hospital Performance Improvement activities and strategic goals.
Participates as a member of various committees, teams and councils for AdventHealth Lab, including cross-location laboratory teams, and location specific teams/committees as may be assigned.
Acts upon approved recruitment programs and strategies connected with collection site and mobile units. Assists in preventing and addressing collection/recruitment problems. Assures quality customer services to all customers.
Recognizes and provides resolution to complex customer service issues by utilizing professional, mature judgment, effective decision-making, seeking feedback and input as appropriate.
Follows and ensures adherence of staff, to the AdventHealth Corporate Responsibility program and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all-times
What You Will Need:
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Experience with regulatory and accreditation of transfusion services and blood bank
Three years recent experience in blood donor services
Four years of clinical laboratory training or experience, or both, within the assigned specialty.
Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory management role
Licensed by State of Florida at Clinical Laboratory Supervisor level or higher in appropriate specialties
Nationally certified as Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist, or higher
Master's degree in a chemical, biological, or medical laboratory science, healthcare or business administration, or leadership
Minimum five years of experience in a supervisory role in a complex clinical laboratory
The Donor Services Manager oversees and manages the daily operations at the blood processing center, drawing centers, and mobile units. Coordinates blood donations to ensure blood inventory levels. Implements assigned procedures, policies, quality assessments and goals toward the successful completion of total collection goals. Directly responsible for the Donor Services' personnel - interviewing and hiring, assuring appropriate training and competence of staff, enforcing correct rules and regulations. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
