We are looking for an Immunohematology Reference Laboratory Manager.
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for managing all Immunohematology Reference Laboratory processes which requires a thorough understanding of immunohematology and the principles and properties of red cell antigens and antibodies, including problem solving abilities and customer service. The immunohematology reference laboratory manager will provide consultation to hospital clients, train and assess competency of staff and manage all aspects of immunohematology testing and services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned. • Attendance is a requirement of this position. • On-call availability is a requirement of this position. • Perform all duties and responsibilities listed in the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory Technologist job description. • Perform all duties and responsibilities listed in the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory Lead Technologist job description. • Be involved in the training and competency assessment of coworkers/subordinates after successfully completing required on-the-job, classroom and/or other training. • Coach and counsel staff as needed, taking disciplinary measures when improvement is not seen. • Communicate with the hospital customer as needed. • Coordinate antigen typing of donor samples to ensure minimum inventory levels are maintained for hospital orders. • Document procedural deviations and incidences in accordance with standard operating procedures. • Ensure that all supplies and equipment are operational and properly maintained. • Ensure that subordinate staff properly performs assigned responsibilities and abide by the shifts that they are assigned. • Ensure that workflow and production are at target levels. Report problems to management if necessary. • Evaluate, develop, and implement new immunohematology procedures, policies, and products in cooperation with Operations and Quality Assurance. • Maintain compliance with current good manufacturing practices. • Maintain IRL compliance with an approved Proficiency Testing Program. • Maintain records of all QC activities and reports of equipment failure/repair. • Manage critical supplies, reagent inventory and submit supply requests to warehouse. • Manage workflow and staff including coverage in department. • Monitor quality control (QC) on all blood products, reagents, and equipment. • Must have consistent and reliable transportation for periodic offsite meetings. • Oversee daily operations and ensure that staff follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at all times, taking disciplinary measures if necessary. • Perform all procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures. • Prepare, review and/or maintain records and report as directed and in accordance with established departmental procedures. • Provide coverage for release of appropriate inventory to hospital transfusion services to fill special order blood requests. • Provide customer service support via phone and hospital site visits; resolve any customer service issues that may arise. • Provide feedback to management on personnel issues, training and productivity. • Provide telephone, data entry and retrieval, and report typing support to the laboratory. • Provide transfusion recommendations. • Review work and assist personnel with problem-solving. • Troubleshoot computer, equipment, and/or productivity issues. • Write, review, and validate standard operating procedures.
Required :Bachelors or better.
