The Immunohematology Reference Laboratory Technologist will perform immunohematology testing for patients and fulfill special blood product orders as requested. Employee will coordinate with the hospital customer and other departments to ensure that specialty blood product requests are met and/or resolve any issues that may arise.
Ensure inventory availability of special blood products by screening and maintaining optimal levels for patient needs.
Freeze and deglycerolizes red cell units as needed for stock or patient use.
Import special blood products for inventory as necessary and place into proper storage units.
Perform antigen screening to fulfill special product requests and to maintain minimum pre-screened units.
Perform labeling of blood products as necessary.
Perform patient testing as ordered, included but not limited to:
o ABO/Rh Typing
o Antibody Identifications using cell panels, elution kits, treated cells, adsorption methods
o Antibody Screens
o Phenotype patient red cells
Perform QC of reagents and kits in accordance with SOP.
Receive and process acceptable patient specimens, documenting deviations as necessary.
Resolve complex patient red cell antibody identification problems.
Resolve units with positive antibody screens, releasing eligible units into inventory.
Ship specimens for further immunohematology testing as necessary (i.e. molecular typing).
Collaborate with blood center partners to maintain inventory of rare donor units for regional use.
Communicate with hospital customers about issues with ordering or specimen collection practices.
Communicate with hospital customers and other blood centers regarding patient testing or special blood product needs.
Ensure critical supplies are maintained in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and properly stocked for availability.
Required :Bachelors or better.
Required: MT/MLS, MLT or BBT
