Director of Biomedical Engineering – Biomedical Engineering – AdventHealth Orlando
Advent Health Orlando seeks to hire Director of Biomedical Engineering who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.
Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.
As part of Advent Health System, AdventHealth central region, The Clinical Engineering (CE) department of AdventHealth provides for the support, maintenance and safe use of all medical devices across the central region of 8 acute care facilitates. To meet this scope of service, the CE Department oversees the actions of three groups: biomedical service, radiology service and sterilizer service. Each of these three groups performs repair, preventive maintenance and calibration on their respective equipment. The Radiology equipment services team is seeking an equipment service engineer that has specific experience in the maintenance and support of Philips and GE ultrasound systems and general x-ray systems.

The Director of Biomedical Engineering leads the strategic and operational direction of the Biomedical Engineering program system-wide that ensures safe, cost effective, and high-quality repair and service support of medical equipment across the system. Develops and directs implementation of business plans and strategies allied to the organization's goals / objectives that are consistent with AdventHealth policies and federal, state and local regulations. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of technology-based field service operations
Thorough knowledge of DNV, local, state, federal codes and industry standards in the medical equipment field
Extremely strong leadership, management and coaching skills with an emphasis on people development
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
Ability to present complex information clearly and succinctly to all levels of staff, partners and senior leaders
Ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field
Master's degree in Clinical, Biomedical Technology, or related field (Preferred)
7 years of professional experience in the field of biomedical or clinical engineering in an acute care environment
5 years of managerial experience
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Clinical Engineering Certification (CCE) by the American College of Clinical Engineering (Preferred)

Manages teams responsible for maintaining general medical, imaging and sterilizer equipment in the facilities system-wide.
Serves as chairperson on the Medical Equipment Committee (part of the Environment of Care Committee.)
Regularly operates under deadlines and may be subject to extreme workloads. Uses effective verbal, written and presentation skills to solve problems quickly and accurately.
Ensures department compliance of policies and procedures system-wide.
Responsible for maintaining compliance with standards as required by DNV, AHCA / CMS (Agency for Healthcare Administration / Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), AABB (American Association of Blood Banks), CAP (College of American Pathologists), CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and others common to the Biomedical Engineering field.
Ensures department adherence to AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Conduct and Policies & Procedures.
Responsible for an annual department budget of $6 M and a staff of 63+ employees.
Collaborates with clinical department directors, senior management, and finance to proactively plan for medical equipment purchases and replacements.
Leads strategic and operational direction of the biomedical engineering program that ensures safe, cost effective, and high-quality repair and service support of medical equipment across the system.
Works closely with senior management to develop and implement financial business plans and strategies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives and support requirements.
Reviews key performance indicators and directs implementation of improvement plans and outcomes for significant operation-related problems or concerns.
In conjunction with senior management, develops and implements strategies, polices, procedures and systems to support customer excellence and process improvements.
Promotes process improvement and best practices at the facilities
Encourages and promotes community involvement within department through participation in the American Heart Walk, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Adopt-a-Family and other Hospital approved campaigns and/or Foundation events.
Participates with HR / Recruiting to obtain qualified personnel for open positions. Interviews management candidates and is active in the selection process.
Maintains a high level of communication with all relative departments and individuals.
Develops employees and management teams within the system to ensure their highest potential is reached through coaching, programs and external training opportunities.
