The UF Health Shands Hospital BMT Program was established in 1981, making it the oldest in Florida. The program has performed more than 3000 blood and marrow transplants, is one of the largest in the Southeast and was the first in Florida to receive accreditation from the Foundation for Accreditation of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation. In addition, the program serves as a Core center for two National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) networks, are a National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) collection and transplant center, member of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant (CIBMT) and participate in National Institute for Health (NIH) funded programs in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine research.

UF Health Shands Hospital is currently seeking an energetic and experienced individual to join the Bone Marrow Transplant Program as a Cellular Therapy Quality Specialist. This position will report to the BMT Program Quality Management Coordinator and will work closely with the Stem Cell Laboratory Coordinator and staff. This position offers an excellent opportunity to participate in the development of quality initiatives for growing cellular therapy applications.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Assess and maintain the Stem Cell Laboratory quality assurance and quality control indicators for cellular therapy products.
Maintain regulatory (FDA) and accreditation (FACT / CAP) compliance for cellular therapy products.
Assist the Stem Cell Laboratory Coordinator and staff with writing and revising policies and procedures.
Assist with development, writing, execution and review of equipment qualifications and process validations.
Assist with internal and external audits and complaint investigation and reporting.
Maintain document control system for the creation, review, and revision of policies and procedures relating to the processing and distribution of cellular therapy products.
Prepare monthly reports and annual summary for quality compliance review by BMT Program Quality Management Coordinator.
Assist the Quality Management Coordinator with identifying areas for quality improvement and the development of action plans and metrics needed to monitor progress toward meeting quality improvement objectives.
Bachelor’s degree in a work-related discipline (Medical Laboratory Science / Biological Science) from an accredited college or university. The candidate must have good organization skills, strong computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. 2 years’ of specialized experience (cellular therapy processing laboratory to include quality management) or 4 years’ total relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting, cellular therapy product manufacturing facility or quality management.
Preferred Experience / Skills
Medical Technologist, ASCP certified
Cellular Therapy Laboratory experience
Knowledge of regulatory (FDA) and accreditation (FACT) requirements
Knowledge of Quality Management Systems
Experience in writing procedures and validation plans
