The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is recruiting for an Assistant Director of Laboratory Hematology and Coagulation at the Assistant or Associate Attending Physician level. The Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases is a worldwide leader in cancer treatment and diagnosis, consistently voted as one of the best specialty hospitals in the nation. The Department of Laboratory Medicine provides diagnostic testing for all patients seen at MSKCC. The Department includes the following services, Clinical Chemistry including Point-of Care, Hematology including Coagulation and Cellular Immunology, Microbiology, Cellular Therapy, Transfusion Medicine including blood bank, donor room and apheresis, and jointly with the Pathology Department, Hematopathology. The main campus operation is comprised of seven laboratories and the highest-volume hospital-based blood donor room in the city of New York. In addition, there are 6 regional sites located in New Jersey, Westchester, Long Island and several outpatient sites in Manhattan that collect specimens and perform limited on-site testing.
The Hematology and Coagulation Sections of the Clinical Laboratories perform approximately 700 thousand tests annually and are highly advanced laboratories with a staff of 42 technologists, 3 supervisors, an assistant manager, a manager, and a Service Chief. The successful candidate will participate in coordinating and standardizing hematology and coagulation services across MSK Manhattan and Regional laboratories and develop appropriate quality management programs, conduct new test development, and engage in translational and collaborative investigations, and play an integral role in clinical consultation and interpretive reporting of Hematology peripheral blood smears and body fluids, coagulation testing and hemoglobin electrophoresis. In addition, the incumbent is expected to actively engage in the Laboratory Medicine Fellowship training program through teaching and mentoring of fellows. The Department of Laboratory Medicine is expanding to support new and expanding hospital programs and includes a new, state-of-the art Laboratory Medicine building with dedicated laboratory space for individual areas.
