Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Database Analyst.
In this role, the successful candidate supports the HCLL Blood Bank application at all NYULMC locations by successfully assisting in the maintenance of the information systems that affect transfusion technology processes and transmit information correctly among these systems according to established standards. Serves as a liaison between HCLL users and EPIC. Reports to the Blood Bank Information Systems Manager.
Demonstrates an active knowledge of Blood Bank Quality Assurance Plan Self Assessment (BBQAPSA) and knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Demonstrates core knowledge of Laboratory Process Control functions and is able to safely and successfully control the related processes of blood acquisition, storage, distribution, pretransfusion compatibility testing, blood dispensing, adverse reaction management and component modification.
Demonstrates knowledge of Documents and Records: uses computer systems to conduct patient, donor, tissue (stem cells) testing and processing activities recognizing and safeguarding the control functions of the systems designed to protect blood donors and recipients. Understands and maintains record retention requirements as set forth by regulatory agencies.
Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of Blood Bank (BB) Deviation, Non-conformance and Complications. Successfully intervenes to prevent product non-conformance and its possible consequences.
Internal/External Assessments; Participates as directed in corrective action plans; preventive action planning, and quality monitoring activities.
LOH BB, Brooklyn BB and all other satellite BB locations. Is competent to perform all laboratory donor processes, inventory management, patient testing, blood dispensing, and information systems processes in all workstations and may be assigned to assist any of the sites under NYUHC Blood Bank management at any time.
Job Specific IT core competencies: BB IT: assist in Validation Planning and Execution. Daily BB IT Functions: Perform Exception Review; Reconcile Manual System Billing and Daily EPIC Billing Workque reconciliation; Create HCLL Billing File Send to IT and Reconcile follow-up, merging accounts, ADT notification report, EPIC order cancellations, Sunquest result entry, and printing reports.
End user support for the EPIC orders and LIS application. Provides input into escalation of issues with appropriate internal resources. Troubleshoots issues with vendor assistance for problem resolution.
Maintain professional currency in the field of immunohematology, blood bank and hospital informatics by attending in-service and CE programs that provide a minimum of 12 CEUs per year.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology or Chemistry and minimum of 6 years working experience in a Multi-Hospital Medical Center Clinical Laboratory. NYS certification as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. 3+ years work experience in implementation of software systems with complex and large scale technology deployment.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the above, specific experience with HCLL, Sunquest and EPIC system preferred. Knowledge of applicable regulations and/or accreditation standards, pertaining to the operation of Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS) from CMS, OSHA, CLIA, NYS Department of Health, CAP, AABB and FDA.
