The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor I is responsible for the overall operation of the STAT laboratory which includes Phlebotomy, Blood Bank and Automated Services (Chemistry and Hematology); and provides technical and administrative supervision and direction to professional staff. This position may participate as necessary in clinical tests and procedures requiring technical skills and knowledge and may also assume primary responsibility for special tasks and projects as assigned. The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor I intervenes on behalf of upper management in a variety of matters as directed and is responsible for working proactively with Pathology Director and Pathologists to maintain operational quality; and ensuring fiscal responsibility with area of control. In addition, this position is responsible for personnel issues including training and development of staff; and writing policies and procedures. This position reports to the Laboratory Off-Site Manager.
A Bachelor's Degree or higher is required. (Must provide proof at time of interview.)
be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or another nationally recognized regulatory agency as a Medical Technologist is required(Must provide proof at time of interview.)
six (6) years or more experience in multiple laboratory disciplines such as chemistry, hematology or blood bank is required .
two (2) years of technical lead or supervisory experience providing clinical laboratory services is required .
e xperience writing policies and procedures in a laboratory environment is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of all systems and procedures utilized within a highly complex or special laboratory.
Ability to supervise, schedule and direct technical staff engaged in the performance of highly complex laboratory tests and procedures.
Ability to develop and monitor quality monitors.
Assist in the formulation of laboratory standards and assist in the writing procedures/policies for the section.
A thorough and extensive knowledge of professional, safety, governmental and other regulatory requirements applicable to the clinical laboratories.
Ability to preside over operations, services, and activities of a critical nature and exercise skill and professional discretion in resolving problems and contingencies which may arise.
Ability to supervise and coordinate laboratory information systems services, or the use of PCs and other devices as needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite skills.
