Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, analyzes specimens using a variety of procedures including complex analysis and infrequently requested tests, evaluates abnormal results, uses and maintains equipment, sets up and monitors quality controls, and performs quality assurance activities related to test performance. The Section Supervisor makes assignments by setting the overall objectives and general approach to be taken, by conferring on deadlines and priorities with the lab manager. The Section Supervisor independently plans and carries out the assignments, develops the techniques to be used, coordinates the work with others and keeps the supervisor informed of potential problems. Testing will be consistent with the policies of methodology and quality control as established by the Laboratory Director. Accurate records are kept for all work completed.
Qualifications: A Section Head must meet the following requirements:
Must be licensed by the NYS Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and possess a current Registration Certificate issued by the Division of Professional Licensing Services of the NYS Department of Education. ASCP Blood Bank Certificate required within one year of position start date
Must have a minimum of six (6) years clinical laboratory experience; within the last ten years; as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, two of which are in the section that he/she oversees.
