AABB is seeking a Director, Accounting/Controller to administer and coordinate the financial activities of the Finance and Accounting department of the association and related entities, in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors. Assists senior management and directors in the implementation of Association policies and goals that cover Association operations, programs, financial performance and member services.
Ensures timely, accurate, and informative financial reporting for the preparation of accurate financial statements and reports for the CFO.
Responsible for all aspects of the General Ledger, reviewing all monthly journal entries and ensuring all necessary documentation is in order to support journal entries and general ledger balances.
Provides leadership, guidance and training to the staff in the Department performing a variety of accounting functions to ensure that staff maintains a high level of confidence in their work and that leadership is achieved and maintained.
Assists AABB staff with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, document preparation and other accounting-related activities. Assisting in the development of the annual budget and other financial information requested by the leadership of AABB.
Supervises daily activities in accounting including but not limited to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, General Ledger and Grant Accounting.
Reviews reconciliation of all Asset and Liability accounts (except for cash) prior to the CFO issuing monthly financial statements.
Leads in the annual audit process by providing information to the outside audit firm conducting the audit. Delegate work to other accounting staff as needed in the preparation of financial information needed for the audit. Maintains a schedule for audit requirements and deliverables.
Responsible for the financial aspects of AABB’s government-funded initiatives, including review of monthly internal reports, preparing funding requests, filing quarterly and annual government reports, preparing budgets, and ensuring compliance with government regulations. Prepare indirect cost rate proposals (consultants will review final product).
Implements and manages time reporting system relating to expense reimbursements.
Writes and maintains policies and procedures for finance department functions.
Maintains and implements new accounting systems as needed and prepares schedules for annual tax returns.
Bachelor’s degree in a business related field required.
Five years experience in a management position and proven record of accomplishments in accounting and finance functions.
Responsibility for financial and accounting operations and administration of significant business activities.
Progressive experience in a not-for-profit environment, trust, government grant accounting, and charitable foundation activities highly preferred.
Thorough working knowledge of financial activities of not-for-profit business organizations, including account systems, association management systems, budgeting and financial reporting.
Demonstrated ability to establish policies, guidelines, plans and priorities; ability to identify resources and coordinate with others; monitor progress, evaluate outcomes and improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Ability to foster teamwork, cooperation, consensus, and facilitation of open communication. Clear and effective ability to communicate, both written and verbal.
Ability to organize operations and systems in a simple, understandable and economic manner.
Create problem solver and ability to implement change consistent with the Association’s mission, goals, and objectives.
Ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook and other programs and databases as needed.
