AABB is seeking a Vice President, Membership, Meetings, Communications, and Corporate Affairs. The Vice President participates as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) of AABB, with direct responsibility for the divisions programs. In coordination and/or support of other AABB divisions/departments, provides the leadership, direction and management to the association’s Marketing; Membership; Communications, Public Relations, Web Services; Meetings; National Blood Foundation (NBF), and National Blood Foundation Research and Education Trust (NBFRET) organization.
Directs all program activities for the division.
Oversight for the meetings department to produce the annual meeting, external meetings (including committee meetings, board meetings, AABB Annual Meeting, Cord Blood Symposium, and Transfuse Conference). The AABB Annual Meeting, Cord Blood Symposium and Transfuse Conference represent 25% of the association’s revenue.
Ensures AABB value propositions are delivered to membership and drives improvements in membership experience.
Serve as member of Senior Management Team;
Participate in the strategic planning process.
Act on behalf of the CEO as directed;
Accountable for daily office coverage in coordination with the other Division Directors;
Oversee the administrative policies and procedures and ensures documentation of the Quality System Essentials as they relate to the Division;
Serve as member of the disaster preparedness team and available 24/7/365.
Presents on behalf of AABB and/or attends both international and national meetings to promote association and its programs.
Establishes and maintains an effective business intelligence gathering, analysis and dissemination system across all AABB divisions and operations.
Appraises and evaluates the results of division operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the Chief Executive Officer and the AABB Board of Directors. Provides similar reports to both the NBF and NBFRET chairs and their respective Boards of Directors.
Leads and directs divisions department directors and managers to ensure that program operations achieve budgeted revenue and expense results and establishes specific short and long-term goals and objectives for the division’s directors, to include:
Membership: Oversee development of strategies to increase individual and institutional membership, retain current members, and increase new generation and international membership and visibility. Establish and maintain membership professional engagement program (PEP) for members with guide path for their participation in the association and personal career development. Establish strategic goals for growth in all membership categories and participation in PEP.
Marketing: Oversee all aspects of the association's integrated proactive sales and marketing including research, development and implementation of sales and marketing plans. Establish short and long range goals for Corporate Relations to facilitate the one-stop shopping approach for corporations interested in partnering with AABB. Establish strategic short and long-term goals for all sales across the association.
Communications: Oversee development of all new communication vehicles and ensure the effectiveness of all existing communication vehicles including publications, press releases, social media, public presentations, membership communications and website. Speak on behalf of the association to the media.
National Blood Foundation: Develop and implement the strategic business plan of the National Blood Foundation (NBF) in consultation with the NBF Board and establish all fundraising activities for NBF and National Blood Foundation Research and Education Trust. Oversee the investment of National Blood Foundation Research and Education Trust funds. Establish short and long range goals of the National Blood Foundation.
Meetings: Responsible for creating the strategic direction for annual meetings and AABB managed meetings. Responsible for driving related key initiatives from concept to implementation, ensuring the excellence and financial success of these events which represent approximately 25% of the association’s overall revenue. Works collaboratively across the organization to maximize net income and brand recognition of AABB’s Annual Meeting, the Cord Blood Symposium, and Transfuse Conference from both a programmatic and business perspective. Maintains an operational infrastructure that supports successful business activities, including process management tools, performance metrics, financial aggregation and oversight, revenue enhancement opportunities, and/or cost reduction opportunities.
Sets budget and stretch goals for organization, designs new systems and processes to achieve goals, and creates a strong sales expertise for AABB.
Supervise the research of new product and service offerings that address member needs and concerns; develop and recommend changes as deemed appropriate.
Supervise periodic needs assessments and focus groups to ensure AABB products and services meet the needs of the membership and identify new products and services as indicated.
Ongoing evaluation of ways to perform division functions more economically.
Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field. Master’s degree and Association experience preferred.
Experience – Ten years’ experience with at least five years management responsibility in marketing, membership, meetings, sales, communications and/or foundations.

Demonstrated technical proficiency and understanding of its impact in area(s) of responsibility.

Often requires computer responsibility which involves extensive use of keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Must be willing to travel, sometimes on short notice as needed. Travel and other work related assignments on weekends are possible.
