The Department of Pathology at Stanford Medicine seeks a full-time physician clinician educator to serve as the Medical Director of clinical services and operations at the Stanford Blood Center. This position is in the Clinician Educator line, with the rank based on years of relevant experience.
The primary responsibility is to provide medical oversight for policies and procedures of the Blood Center. The individual will ensure that Blood Center policies and procedures support the complex needs of the patient populations served by the Blood Center, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and standards. The individual will share responsibilities for medical consultations at the Blood Center and for medical student, resident and fellow training activities in blood banking and transfusion medicine. The individual will provide medical cross coverage for the Transfusion Service at Stanford Hospital, which provides transfusion support for both adult and pediatric patients. The individual will be encouraged to participate in clinical research projects in blood banking and transfusion medicine.
The Stanford Blood Center collects approximately 50,000 red cell and 14,000 plateletpheresis components annually, utilizing manual and automated collection technologies, and performs donor infectious disease testing on site. It is the primary supplier for multiple community hospitals including Stanford Health Care and the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. The Blood Center provides support for clinical, translational and basic science research activities.
