Job Summary/Purpose: Transfusion Services Medical Technologist: Perform a variety of complex immunohematological tests that are required for safe transfusion of blood and blood products. Prepare blood and blood products, including those that are irradiated, leukoreduced, thawed, pooled, divided and/or aliquoted in syringes. Assist with the maintenance of quality control of blood refrigerators and freezers, cell washers and centrifuges to include daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning, alarm checks, temperature checks and basic troubleshooting.
Minimum Training and Education: A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related medical or scientific discipline
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC). If not certified, must be registry eligible and successfully obtain certification within the first year of employment.
