Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of assigned laboratory, either APL or VTL. Hire and supervise laboratory staff. Participate in education and training activities. Ensure compliance with federal, state, ARCBS directives and regional policy and procedures and regulations.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures, regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and other applicable federal, state and local laws.
Comply with safety policies and procedures in the work area and uses applicable protective equipment at all times to prevent exposure to potentially infectious blood and body fluids.
3rd Shift Schedule: 12:00am-8:30am includes some weekends and some holidays
Supervise laboratory staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline to ensure a well-qualified team and enhance operational success. Manage workflow.
Ensure staff training and certification of competency.
Prepare work schedules and ensure appropriate coverage at all times.
Assist in the review and update of laboratory procedures to comply with changes in regulations, ARCBS directives, local and regional policies and procedures and technical advancements.
Manage all work processes within the laboratory and ensure work is performed accurately and efficiently.
Investigate laboratory problems. Document all problems as necessary, on the appropriate forms.
Working knowledge of all tests and equipment.
Perform troubleshooting of all laboratory equipment. Assure all lab equipment maintained as required.
Notify client services or customer of all testing delays.
May have budgetary responsibility for assigned cost center.
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, AABB/ASHI standards, ARCBS directives and regional policies and procedures.
Write, organize, and maintain technical sections of departmental procedure manual.
Perform other related duties as necessary.
Hire and supervise assigned laboratory staff.
May have budgetary responsibility within assigned cost center.
Participate as part of laboratory management team.
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science, medical technology or the equivalent experience required.
Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent certification desired.
Degrees from foreign institutions will require credential equivalency evaluation and must be stated on resume
Minimum six years relevant laboratory experience required.
Ability to understand and perform complex procedures and techniques and work with complex instrumentation; to correctly interpret test results, to include identification and resolution of discrepancies required.
Must meet New York, California or other state requirements, as required, in addition to CLIA requirements (California only: current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required.)
