ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, HLA LABORATORY BETH ISRAEL DEACONESS MEDICAL CENTER AND HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL
The Department of Pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is recruiting a full-time academic faculty member as Assistant Director of the HLA Laboratory. The Medical Center is a 631-bed tertiary care facility and a principal teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Our Histocompatibility (HLA) Laboratory is an ASHI- and CAP-accredited laboratory that supports active clinical programs in solid organ and stem cell transplantation as well as other disciplines requiring immunogenetics testing.
The successful candidate will work with the HLA Director to provide oversight of the HLA Laboratory activities. In addition to sharing coverage of clinical, administrative and technical aspects of the laboratory, the candidate is expected to contribute to our education mission by teaching Histocompatibility/HLA to various institutional trainees (Pathology residents, Transfusion Medicine fellows and transplant program fellows). Although this is primarily a clinical position, the candidate will also have opportunities to develop a strong program in basic, applied or translational research.
Applicants must hold an MD, MD/PhD or PhD degreeand be board-certified by the ABP (CP) or be a diplomate of the ABHI and at a minimum,meet the minimum ASHI/CAP/CLIA requirements to be a clinical consultant in Clinical Histocompatibility. Physicians must be qualified to obtain a medical license in Massachusetts. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience in all aspects of a full-range Histocompatibility laboratory and are qualified by the ASHI DTRC.
Applicants with training and expertise in other areas of Laboratory Medicine are highly desired and encouraged to apply. Depending on interests and credentials, the incumbent may have opportunities to provide physician coverage of other areas in the Clinical Laboratories.
Harvard Medical School faculty appointment (full-time) will be commensurate with experience.
