CLINICAL FACULTY: MEDICAL DIRECTOR Clinical Pathology & Blood Bank / Transfusion Medicine
The Department of Pathology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine has a faculty opening for a Medical Director of Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine at Banner University Medical Center Tucson (BUMCT). The academic rank (assistant professor, associate professor, or professor) and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will combine teaching and clinical activities and provide leadership in all aspects of the Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine Service including leading the blood bank / transfusion medicine rotation for pathology residents and sharing other teaching responsibilities with the rest of the Clinical Pathology faculty. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical and analytical skills as well as excellent communication, organization, interpersonal, leadership, and teaching skills.
BUMCT is a 463-bed general medical and surgical facility with more than 25,000 admissions, 70,000 ED visits, and 14,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries on an annual basis. BUMCT is a level I trauma center and is also home to the NCI designated Cancer Center which performs cutting edge research and patient care, including bone marrow and stem cell transplantations. BUMCT also performs solid organ transplants including heart, lung, kidney, kidney/pancreas and liver.
Board Certified Eligible in Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine
Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
Must hold or be eligible for State of Arizona Medical License
Three years clinical practice experience in the fields of transfusion medicine/blood banking (preferred) and other areas of clinical pathology
Track record of academic accomplishments including peer-reviewed publications and interest in teaching
Established expertise in working with diverse patient populations
Monday through Friday
Shared call rotation, can be taken from home but may require coming into the hospital to review peripheral blood smears/body fluids, flow cytometry
