Vice President, Medical Affairs & Medical Director Mississippi Blood Services (MBS)
Mississippi Blood Services is seeking the right candidate to assume the role of Vice President of Medical Affairs and Medical Director. From this highly visible position, you will provide medical guidance to the organization, and continuing education to hospital customer transfusion services encompassing immunohematology, therapeutic apheresis, cellular therapy and other activities. In this position you will have the ability to impact the health of both MBS blood donors and hospital patients. Mississippi Blood Services is the only blood service headquartered in Mississippi and currently serves nearly 50 hospitals across Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Monitor clinical trends in blood banking and serve as the MBS liaison to the hospital community.
Evaluate medical safety and suitability of whole blood and apheresis donors.
Working closely with the VP of Regulatory Affairs, ensure all aspects of MBS operations are in accordance with the regulations of FDA, CBER, AABB, CLIA and applicable state regulations.
Counsel donors as necessary following abnormal test results; ensure appropriate organizations are properly notified.
Develop training and provide education related to blood banking and transfusion medicine to the MBS staff, the public, area physicians, medical students and allied health professionals.
Oversee serologic and related reference testing for patient samples.
Oversee investigations and retesting of hospital reported possible transfusion related adverse effects.
Oversee processes and procedures used to recruit, qualify and draw blood components from homologous, autologous and therapeutic donors.
Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, program and policy development, quality assurance activities and all other executive staff functions as time allows.
Requirements for Education/Skills/Abilities/Behavioral Assets:
Board certified/board eligible physician with 3-5 years experience preferred in hematology, transfusion medicine, cellular therapy, clinical pathology or related fields.
Comfortable communicating in a manner that will motivate and persuade others, while being aware of their needs and concerns.
Strategic, big-picture thinking backed by an added focus on the tactical aspects of the work.
Cooperative and comfortable working as a member of a team, building appropriate relationships with donors, MBS associates, the Mississippi medical community, and Medical Directors across the country.

Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is a not-for-profit blood service, founded in 1979. Our mission is to provide a safe and adequate supply of voluntarily donated blood and blood components for patients in hospitals and to offer related services to our hospitals and other medical facilities.
MBS is the only FDA licensed blood center headquartered in Mississippi, created to manage our state’s bloo...d supply. We service hospitals across the state.
MBS operates nine drawing centers across the State of Mississippi with distribution hubs in Jackson, Oxford and Greenville. MBS supplies a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products to hospitals in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee.
MBS is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), a founding member of Blood Centers of America, Inc. (BCA/hemerica), a member of America’s Blood Centers (ABC), and a member of the South Central Association of Blood Banks (SCABB).
In 1975, through the initiative of 26 civic clubs, Mississippi Regional Blood Center was formed. This initiative, along with a $400,000 federal grant provided start-up funding for the new blood center, with the stipulation that the center offer its services to hospitals and patients throughout Mississippi.
In November 1979, Mississippi Blood Services, Inc., was created through the consolidation of Family Blood Assurance Program and Mississippi Regional Blood Center.
