The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a full time academic appointment for an Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine with interest in immunohematology and apheresis. The candidate must have an MD/DO degree with board certification/eligibility in Transfusion Medicine. Candidates with ASHI certification or interest in HLA/histocompatibility are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will have a track record of working cooperatively and collegially within a diverse academic and clinical environment and will contribute to the teaching, service, and research missions of the department. Responsibilities include effective management of all administrative functions of an active Transfusion Service, including medical oversight of a Therapeutic Apheresis Program and a highly successful Blood Donor Center that serves the Medical, Surgical, and Transplant Services of a 400-bed tertiary care hospital. The University of California, Irvine Medical Center is home to multiple specialty services including an NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, UC Irvine Regional Burn Center and the only Level I trauma center in Orange County.
The laboratory is housed in a newly designed, spacious and well-equipped teaching, research and support complex. The interactive environment encourages individuals to excel and achieve their professional and personal goals.
Individuals qualified for appointment in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series (open rank) with experience working cooperatively and collegially within a diverse academic and clinical environment are encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold, or be eligible for, a medical license in the State of California. Individuals should be Board Certified/Eligible in Transfusion Medicine.
